Real Chia Oats of Veg Out

If you are following along with our tweets or Instagram stories, you know that #BreakfastWithBravo has become a go-to moment for us, with the shows ranging from the “Real Housewives” franchises to competition shows like “Top Chef” and “Project Runway.”

I wanted to turn that into a blog series, so we’re starting with some Kathy Hilton-inspired chia oatmeal that you can pair with the new season of “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills.”

These oats are vegan, gluten-free and low FODMAP, and you can easily make swaps to vary it up each day. This recipe is just for a single serving.

Ingredients
0.5 cups rolled oats
1 tablespoon chia seeds
1 tablespoon bourbon-infused maple syrup
1 cup almond milk
0.25 cups raspberries, to garnish

Instructions
Put the oats, chia seeds, syrup and almond milk in a medium-sized, microwave-safe bowl.

Microwave the oats for two minutes. Let the oats cool for at least a minute and garnish with the raspberries on top.

Dig into the bowl and the latest “RHOBH” episode!

Side Note
In place of or in addition to the chia seeds and bourbon-infused maple syrup, I’ve made loads of other topping combinations, including chocolate chips, chocolate syrup, regular maple syrup, brown sugar, peanut butter, tahini, granola butter, cinnamon, jam, nuts and berries (fresh or frozen).

I’ve also replaced the almond milk with a chocolate protein shake a couple of times, which I highly recommend.

The Easy Route
You could use a packet of pre-mixed oatmeal or order a hot bowl of oatmeal to be delivered.

The Pairing
I started watching Bravo as a teenager to see celebrities do in-depth interviews with the late, great James Lipton on “Inside the Actors Studio.”

In college, I got into “Project Runway” and “Top Chef.” Then the “Real Housewives” and Andy Cohen came into my life. I’ve watched episodes from all the shows, but New York and Beverly Hills are my favorites.

I started watching “The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills” when it first aired, intrigued by the appearance of actual actors in it. Granted, Kyle and Kim Richards aren’t the biggest names (or at least they weren’t when the show began), but I grew up watching movies they were in like “Escape to Witch Mountain” and “Halloween.”

And as the show has taken off, it’s been fascinating to see higher profile actresses like Lisa Rinna, Garcelle Beauvais and Denise Richards join the cast.

One of my favorite later additions to the cast has been Kathy Hilton, who is the eldest Richards sister. Her demand for chia seeds during a getaway was just one of the quirky highlights from her first season on “RHOBH,” and I’m looking forward to seeing more from her in this new season, which is the show’s 12th(!).

I will be the first to admit that the “Real Housewives” shows can be full of petty, ridiculous drama and over-the-top, sometimes grotesque, showings of wealth that most of us will never achieve.

Despite all of that, I love seeing these women do fun things together and have some honest bonding moments. And sometimes the drama is just so juicy you can’t help but watch last night’s episode as soon as you wake up and make your breakfast.

As I mentioned above, I envision Breakfast with Bravo becoming a series given how many shows I watch on that network. Leave your suggestions for future pairings in the comments!
