“Wicked: For Good” (2025)

I love going to see a movie with a crowd, especially when it’s a musical, comedy or romance. “Wicked: For Good” is obviously a musical, and it does dip its toes into comedy and romance here and there.

If you enjoy the big screen experience like me, get out and see this sequel this weekend.

Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo continue to have fantastic chemistry as Galinda and Elphaba, and they really sell their characters’ deep friendship in “For Good.”

As I wrote in my review of “Wicked” (Part One), one of my big criticisms of both films is that it at times felt like Grande was doing a Chenoweth impression instead of making the Galinda role her own. This isn’t a consistent issue, and I was once again sold on Grande’s portrayal by the end of “For Good.”

Perhaps my biggest criticism of “For Good” is that it maybe had too much going on, and I simply am finding myself wanting more of all the details that just had to get dropped at some point to not turn this into a four-hour sequel versus the two hours and 17 minutes that it clocks in at as is.

I wanted more of Jonathan Bailey’s Fiyero, more of the animal rights Elphaba wanted to protect, more of Michelle Yeoh’s deliciously evil Madame Morrible, more of Jeff Goldblum being the best Wizard of Oz to grace the silver screen.

But I guess the fact that I got so invested in even the smaller plot points and characters means that “For Good” did a great job of pulling me in. I never felt the runtime of this get tedious.

I do love the songs in part one more (I was walking around my house singing “Popular,” “Defying Gravity” and “Dancing Through Life” today), but the titular track of the sequel, “For Good,” is still a banger.

While I felt a little bit of a drop off overall in the second act versus part one, I am still giving this the same rating.

Rating: 4/5
