Resident Apple
One of my favorite fall drinks is the apple jack, a mix of apple cider and whiskey.
We started watching “Resident Alien” when it premiered last year, and it quickly became one of our favorite shows.
One of the main characters is a bartender, and, especially in the first season, a lot of scenes take place in the bar where she works. So I figured a drink recipe would make a great pairing for “Resident Alien.”
This gluten-free, vegan recipe makes one cocktail.
Ingredients
1.5 ounces (1 shot) whiskey
8 ounces (1 cup) apple cider
1 cinnamon stick
Instructions
Pour a shot of whiskey into a cocktail glass. Add the cup of apple cider.
Stir the whiskey and apple cider together using the cinnamon stick. Some of the cinnamon will break off to give your cocktail an extra burst of fall flavor.
Leave the stick in the drink so it continues to infuse your beverage with cinnamon as you sip.
The Easy Route
It doesn’t get much easier than this, especially depending on the liquor laws where you live. If you’re somewhere that allows this, you could get an apple jack drink for delivery or takeout.
The Pairing
“Resident Alien” is one in a long line of shows we love that expertly mix science fiction, comedy and drama.
The show follows an alien who comes to the small town of Patience, Colorado. He kills a man who lives in the cabin in the woods and assumes his identity as Dr. Harry Vanderspiegle (Alan Tudyk).
Harry learns about being human from watching reruns of “Law & Order,” and he becomes obsessed with the show, bringing it up in conversation throughout the series’ two seasons. It especially comes into play as Harry is recruited to help solve a murder or two.
Little quirky details like this are what I really love about “Resident Alien.”
After staying locked up in the cabin for a bit, Harry quickly finds himself embedded in small town life as Patience’s doctor. He forms a close friendship with Asta Twelvetrees (Sara Tomko), the town nurse.
Both Tudyk and Tomko are terrific in their roles, demonstrating their range as actors in the show’s cross-genre storytelling.
The ensemble cast, which includes Gary Farmer, Alice Wetterlund, Corey Reynolds, Elizabeth Bowen, Levi Fiehler, Meredith Garretson, Judah Prehn, Gracelyn Awad Rinke, Linda Hamilton and Sarah Podemski, is absolutely fantastic. All of their intersecting plot lines make you want to tune in to the new episodes each week.
We’re really looking forward to season three.
