I love a good coming-of-age movie, and “Reality Bites” hits all the right notes of mid-1990s nostalgia. I chose the 4 different toppings for these mini polenta pizzas to represent the movie’s four main characters.
“Always Be My Maybe” is one of my newer favorites, in large part because one of the main characters is a chef and restaurateur. I made teriyaki chickpea bao based on a scene involving the two main characters and some coveted free buns.
“Vertigo” holds up after multiple viewings and more than 60 years after its release, just like the tempeh piccata holds up after several iterations.
Words cannot describe how much I love the show “Schitt’s Creek,” and I honestly feel the same way about macaroni and cheese.
Since a lot of “Do the Right Thing” takes place in a pizzeria and the protagonist is the delivery guy there, I chose pizza for the pairing. The crust is vegan, gluten-free and low FODMAP, but the toppings contain gluten, dairy and high amounts of FODMAPs. As always, everything’s still vegetarian, though!
When asked what my favorite movie is, I usually give the answer that it’s a tie between “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind” and “The Philadelphia Story.” I opted to make my pairing for the second half of this double-feature debut a dessert.
