Super Simple Quiche

In “Naomi,” the titular character prepares an awesome French breakfast spread for her parents, so I picked a French breakfast staple for my pairing: quiche.

This vegan quiche recipe makes 8 “servings.”

Ingredients
1 pie crust, packaged or homemade
1 bottle liquid vegan eggs
1 tablespoon rosemary, fresh or dried

Instructions
Preheat the oven to 350°F and make sure your pie crust is ready according to its recipe or packaging instructions. Our frozen pie crust needed to thaw for 10-20 minutes.

Pour the bottle of egg replacer into the pie crust. Since the bottled egg replacers come with seasoning already mixed in, it really is that simple.

Gently sprinkle the rosemary leaves over the top.

Bake the quiche for 45-50 minutes, or until the eggs are solidified and a little golden brown on the top.

Slice, serve and savor with an episode or two of “Naomi!”

The Easy Route
This one is very easy, especially if you use a premade crust. But, you might be able to find a restaurant nearby that makes vegan quiche or something along those lines at your local grocery store or bakery.

The Pairing
At first glance, “Naomi” may seem like it’s just another in a long line of The CW’s superhero shows, but it isn’t.

Having seen at least a couple episodes of each of The CW’s super shows, I can safely say “Naomi” is my favorite.

The show follows the titular character (played by Kaci Walfall), a high school student who discovers she has supernatural abilities.

Naomi is supported in her journey of super self-discovery by her best friend, Annabelle (Mary-Charles Jones), and her adoptive parents, Jennifer (Mouzam Makkar) and Greg (Barry Watson). Rounding out the cast are Daniel Puig, Alexander Wraith, Cranston Johnson, Will Meyers, Camila Moreno, Aidan Gemme and Stephanie March. They all play well off of Walfall’s incredible lead performance, fleshing out the story with the right balance of mystery and compassion.

In addition to “Naomi” being a great coming of age story and a fascinating superhero origin story, I love the show’s queer representation. It is subtle, not making a big deal out of it when Naomi flirts with different love interests or weighing the show down with a dramatic coming out story.

I hope to see more queer stories like this where there is freedom to explore the multidimensionality of queer characters.

Unfortunately, “Naomi” got canceled after one short season. This does mean that there are some unanswered questions, but some questions are answered in the show’s limited run.

On a positive note, there are only 13 episodes, which makes it an easy show to binge watch.
