Terrific Twosome

“Four Weddings and a Funeral” is one of the first shows my fiancé and I watched together that neither of us had seen before.

For the cocktail, I’m going with a terrific twosome made with one of his favorite beverages, root beer, and one of my favorite beverages, rum.

This vegan, gluten-free recipe makes one cocktail and can easily be modified to make more.

Ingredients
8 ounces root beer, chilled
1 shot rum

Instructions
Make sure your root beer is ice cold, then pour it into a glass.

Add in a shot of rum and give it a stir. I used white rum, but if you like an extra spiced drink, you can use spiced rum.

Drink and enjoy with an episode or all of “Four Weddings and a Funeral.”

The Easy Route
If you’re a wedding guest staying in a hotel with a bar or you live in a place where cocktails can be delivered, you’re in luck.

You could also buy yourself a hard root beer and skip the mixing.

The Pairing
Wedding shows are hard to come by, especially ones that aren’t reality shows. Sure, there are wedding episodes of iconic shows like “Friends” and “Schitt’s Creek,” but not many narrative options that are purely wedding-driven.

Like I said above, one of our great TV finds as a couple is “Four Weddings and a Funeral.” Yes, the 1994 movie is a classic, but this 2019 single-season show is also great.

Mindy Kaling is a writer and a producer on the show, and her talent really shines through here. She is the reason I started watching the show, but I kept watching for the cast.

Nathalie Emmanuel, who is best known for her recurring roles on “Game of Thrones” and in the “Fast & Furious” franchise, is really given the space to shine as the lead of this show. She plays Maya, who finds herself in London visiting old friends to celebrate the engagement of Ainsley (Rebecca Rittenhouse).

Maya has a meet cute involving missing luggage at the airport with Kash (Nikesh Patel).
In an unfortunate twist of fate, it turns out that Kash is Ainsley’s fiancé.

Meanwhile, Maya finds herself sticking around in London after a promising career opportunity pops up. She embraces being reconnected with her college friends, including Ainsley, Caleb (John Paul Reynolds from “Search Party”) and Craig (Brandon Mychal Smith of 2010s Disney Channel fame).

The ensemble keeps you coming back episode after episode, and I really think the show is an underrated gem. I highly recommend checking it out if you have Hulu!
