“Heart Eyes” (2025)

Fresh off appearing in the last couple of “Scream” movies, Mason Gooding continues his string of lovable roles in horror, this time stepping into the lead of “Heart Eyes.”

He and Olivia Holt play two marketers that have a bloody meet cute, which could make people think this is a traditional romcom had the film not opened with a horrific string of murders surrounding a very public Valentine’s Day proposal. (As someone who was proposed to on Valentine’s Day, I am glad mine was private after seeing this movie.)

The premise of the film is “What would you do if you found the love of your life on a day you crossed paths with a serial killer?” It is a unique entry in both the horror and romcom genres.

As a romcom fan, what I appreciated most about “Heart Eyes” is it is as much of a romcom satire as it is a horror flick.

For the horror fans, there are tons of bloody, gory kills that are sure to leave an impression. If you can handle those scenes, I’d also recommend “Heart Eyes” to romcom fans, if only for a sequence where some of the biggest romcoms of the last 30-40 years are all name dropped in a clever run of dialogue.

Some of the humor is most definitely dark in this valentine season release. I actually think it is a great contender for date night this year (especially if you and your date like horror), just steer clear of anyone wearing a creepy heart eyes mask.
