“One of Them Days” (2025)
If you’re looking for a laugh-out-loud comedy to kick off 2025, look no further than “One of Them Days.”
Keke Palmer and SZA star as Dreux and Alyssa, two best friends and roommates who go encounter a series of mishaps as they scrape together the money for rent.
While there are a lot of laughs in the movie, Palmer and SZA play the characters as intensely relatable, too. If you’ve ever lived paycheck to paycheck, you will understand their struggle. The scenes in the payday loan place in particular stood out to me as great moments of satire, anchored by solid supporting work from Katt Williams and Keyla Monterroso Mejia.
Issa Rae produced the movie, and if you’re a fan of her show “Insecure” or “Black Lady Sketch Show,” you will definitely enjoy “One of Them Days.” Gabrielle Dennis from “Black Lady Sketch Show” even has a supporting role in the film.
The ensemble around Palmer and SZA is fantastic, with memorable performances from Dennis, Williams, Mejia, Vanessa Bell Calloway, Patrick Cage, Joshua David Neal, Aziza Scott, Janelle James and Maude Apatow.
I can definitely see “One of Them Days” becoming a comfort watch for me, maybe even the subject of a future Veg Out pairing with a certain drink from the movie.
