“Paddington in Peru” (2024)

The first two “Paddington” movies were a lot of fun, so I was looking forward to the third installment.

“Paddington in Peru” had a strong start with Olivia Colman as a singing nun, but the third entry ultimately fell a little short compared to the first two movies.

The movie introduces a few too many characters but is ultimately a cute romp as Paddington tries to track down his Aunt Lucy and in the meantime, starts to discover more about his roots in Peru and also deepen his appreciation for his English family, who join him on this journey through the Peruvian jungle.

I did miss Sally Hawkins as Mrs. Brown, but I do think Emily Mortimer was a fantastic choice to step into the role and gives a lot of heart in her performance.

As a whole, “Paddington in Peru” felt a little more action-oriented than the previous two movies, relying more on spectacle than plot.

But it’s still a worthwhile family-friendly afternoon at the movies for fans of this beloved series.
