“She Rides Shotgun” (2025)

I went into “She Rides Shotgun” knowing very little but having it recommended by a couple different people.

While you might come to this movie for Taron Egerton, the actor who keeps you enthralled is Ana Sophia Heger, who plays his character’s daughter.

Egerton has become a bona fide movie star thanks to the “Kingsman” series, but Heger holds her own alongside him in “She Rides Shotgun.”

We are introduced to Heger’s Polly seemingly being abandoned by her mom after school one day. After a bit of a wait, an old car comes whipping down the street and it is slowly revealed that Egerton, the driver, is her father, Nate, who just got out of prison.

What unfolds over the next two hours is at times tense, terrifying, heartbreaking and heartwarming. I did have some issues with the plot feeling a little stretchy and the story veering into melodrama at times, but I mostly got over that due to the strong performances from the ensemble cast.

Heger carries the movie so well, and she delivers one of the best child performances I’ve seen in a long time.

If gritty crime dramas are your thing, I highly recommend “She Rides Shotgun.”
