“Snow White” (2025)

“Snow White” is yet another wholly unnecessary live-action Disney remake that is still fun.

While writing my review, I realized I’ve given nearly all of these remakes from the last decade or so 3/5 ratings, and “Snow White” is no different.

Like the others, “Snow White” relies way too heavily on CGI, and I was especially dismayed about the CGI seven dwarves when I saw a human little person playing another character in this adaptation.

As someone who loves musicals, I love that this adaptation added a few new songs and kept that theatricality from the Disney classics alive. However, that enthusiasm ended when the Evil Queen (Gal Gadot) broke into song. It blessedly only took place once, but even that was too much.

On the other hand, Rachel Zegler is absolutely luminous as Snow White, and her voice really shines in her many musical numbers.

This “Snow White” story also has a different take on the Prince Charming character and his romance with the titular character, which I actually liked.

While a lot of character development was given to Snow White and Jonathan (the sub for Prince Charming, played by Andrew Burnap), nearly none was given to the Evil Queen, but I do think that kind of worked as Gadot is able to play a version of herself in a way (which seems to be what she excels at as an actress).

I grew up watching all of the animated Disney films, and they sparked a love of fairy tale-inspired films that has continued into my adulthood. If these live-action remakes are the entry points for younger generations into the fairy tale world, I am all for it.
