“Superboys of Malegaon” (2024)
Movies about filmmaking are one of my favorite subgenres, as are movies about fellow cinephiles. “Superboys of Malegaon” checks both of those boxes.

The film follows a movie theater employee and his friends as they decide to save the theater by pursuing their passions for filmmaking by making films in their hometown, Malegaon.
I really had a lot of fun with this one, which is also based on a true story. It reminded me a lot of “Be Kind Rewind,” “Me and Earl and the Dying Girl” and other films that cross into those two niches I mentioned above.
If you’re a fan of these films or those subjects, I highly recommend heading to the theater this weekend to see “Superboys of Malegaon.”
On top of the movie fan moments, you get some of the beloved Bollywood tropes, including montages set to songs that were written for “Superboys of Malegaon” and describe the plot.
If you’re looking for a film that celebrates the joy and struggles of loving film and filmmaking, I cannot recommend it enough.
