“The Day the Earth Blew Up: A Looney Tunes Movie” (2024)

I wasn’t sure what to expect from a feature-length “Looney Tunes” movie in the 2020s, but I was pleasantly surprised to see Porky Pig and Daffy Duck teaming up for this fun sci-fi romp.

“The Day the Earth Blew Up” chronicles Porky and Daffy as they grow up as adopted sons of a farmer. He leaves the house to them and they struggle to keep it up.

The night before they have a house inspection, an alien ship crashes through their roof, leaving behind a giant hole and some glowing green goo.

Of course they fail their house inspection, which means they have to do something awful: find jobs.

After a series of missteps, they seem to succeed at the local gum factory after meeting Petunia Pig, who is a flavor scientist there.

Things predictably take a turn when Daffy notices the same green goo from their house at the factory.

There are signature elements of the “Looney Tunes” institution all over the movie, including truly cartoonish violence that characters quickly bounce back from to breaking the fourth wall.

This generation of kids can keep their “Dog Man,” I will take “Looney Tunes” any day of the week.
