“The Map That Leads to You” (2025)

I went into “The Map That Leads to You” expecting the standard life-affirming romance that is frequently shoveled straight to streaming these days, and that is exactly what I got.

The equivalent of a beach read, this is a perfect watch as summer comes to a close if you need a break from the heat and/or rain.

Of course, there are better romance movies than this, and it ultimately is not an entirely memorable story, blurring into the pantheon of middling films in this genre.

Lasse Hallström directed “The Map That Leads to You,” continuing his own string of these, which include “Safe Haven” and “Dear John.” It’s kind of a shame, because he’s also responsible for some outstanding entries in the genre, including “Chocolat” and “The Cider House Rules.”

Madelyn Cline and K.J. Apa are charming in their “Map That Leads to You” roles, and I look forward to watching them in other movies.

If the idea of a romantic drama revolving around an uptight young woman on a European vacation falling in love with a charming drifter is appealing to you, you might like “The Map That Leads to You.” Otherwise, you can safely skip it.
